LEAVING HUVILAKATU HOODS – Before a new beginning there must be an end

Southern Helsinki has been always my soulscape. The sea, wind, parks and beautiful houses create a peaceful mindset that has made me come back to live here again and again. But in a few weeks we, my husband and I, will be leaving our pittoresque Huvilakatu hoods.

This area has been very inspiring for me as a designer, the four seasons offering different wonderful treats for photography and design. But I am not the only one who loves Huvilakatu. It is probably the most famous street in Helsinki for taking selfies and doing photo shoots, both for locals and tourists. And for over 15 years Huvilakatu 23 represented Pihlajakatu 23 in the famous Finnish tv-series, Salatut Elämät.

When visiting Helsinki and Huvilakatu, I suggest that you also find your way to Huvilakuja, running parallel with Huvilakatu. It has more character and is more green and versatile. Located at the northern end of this alley is Eira hospital, designed by Lars Sonck in 1905.

A funny little detail - you can find Moomin characters peeking out from the hospital tower windows.

Eira hospital and also some other Ullanlinna locations have been an inspiration to my designs.

But soon we will be stepping into a new adventure in Porvoo Old Town ♥
See you in Porvoo!
